Minister Zunu Unveils Automated Vehicle License Plates and Launches Official Vehicle Inspection Campaign

Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Transport's Assistant Minister for Land and Rail Transport, Hon. Zunu Duyann, made a pivotal appearance at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing, where he outlined transformative measures aimed at enhancing public safety and ensuring road compliance across Liberia.  

During the briefing, Minister Zunu introduced the **Automated Vehicle Identification Plate (AVIP) system, a landmark initiative that underscores the Ministry’s commitment to modernizing vehicle registration processes. This cutting-edge system is designed to improve vehicle identification, curb illegal practices, and promote transparency in the transportation sector.  

“The official inspection exercise begins on November 13, 2024, and will target all vehicles and motorbikes operating across the country,” Minister Zunu announced. He emphasized that the Ministry has been collaborating closely with the **Liberian National Police (LNP) and other security agencies to ensure the exercise is conducted smoothly and effectively.  

Highlighting the Ministry's dedication to public safety, the Minister stated:  
"We are not only focusing on compliance but also on the safety and security of road users. This inspection exercise will help identify and address gaps that could endanger the lives of our citizens."  

Speaking further The Director for Inspections at the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Fahnbullah, elaborated on the activities that will be undertaken during the exercise. These include thorough checks to ensure:  
- Operators possess valid vehicle registration and insurance documents.  
“No vehicle operator is allowed to use another person’s plate. If caught, the offender will face immediate arrest and legal consequences,” Mr. Africanuous Fahnbullah warned.  

He also showcased designated inspection points where Ministry inspectors, along with officers from the Liberia Fire Service and other state security agencies, will be stationed.  

As part of the initiative, the Ministry urges all vehicle owners to ensure their documents are up to date and to cooperate fully with inspectors. The collaboration with the Liberia Fire Service and other security agencies reinforces the Government’s stance on road safety and law enforcement.  

The inspection exercise is a critical step in maintaining order in Liberia’s land transport sector. With the implementation of the Automated Vehicle Identification Plate system, the Ministry of Transport is setting a new standard for compliance and safety, ensuring that Liberia’s roads remain secure and well-regulated.
