Assistant Minister James K. Momo Urges Motorcyclists in Margibi County to Wear Helmets
Kakata, Margibi County – As Road Safety remains a major focus to one of the Ministry of Transport’s initiatives to protecte citizens lives across Liberia, Honorable James K. Momo, the Assistant Minister for Administration and Insurance at the Ministry of Transport, has called on motorcyclists in Margibi County to wear the helmets provided by the Ministry. The helmets were distributed as part of a campaign to ensure the safety of all motorcyclists, especially as they navigate through traffic.
Minister Momo made this important announcement during a day-long road safety training session for motorcyclists in Kakata, Margibi County. The event, which attracted hundreds of motorcyclists, was aimed at equipping them with crucial safety knowledge and reinforcing the importance of using helmets during their daily commutes.
In his address, Minister Momo emphasized that the use of helmets is not just a precaution but a lifesaver. "By wearing these helmets during traffic hours, we can secure hundreds of lives across Margibi County," he said. “This initiative will go a long way in reducing the risk of injury and death among motorcyclists, who are among the most vulnerable road users.”
As part of the event, over 100 motorcyclists received helmets, with each helmet being distributed to one motorbike. The helmets are a tangible commitment from the Ministry of Transport to protect those who rely on motorcycles as a primary mode of transportation.
The training session, which was conducted by road safety experts, covered key topics such as defensive driving, safe maneuvering in traffic, and best practices for protecting both the rider and passenger. At the conclusion of the training, each participant was awarded a certificate, recognizing their completion of the safety course.
The initiative reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety in Liberia, especially in busy counties like Margibi, where motorcycles are a primary means of transport. Minister Momo’s efforts to distribute helmets and provide educational resources will help ensure that road users are better equipped to handle the challenges of navigating traffic safely.
This road safety initiative comes at a critical time, as motorcyclists continue to face challenges on the road due to traffic accidents. By promoting the use of helmets and providing proper training, Minister Momo is paving the way for a safer and more responsible riding culture in Margibi County.
As the program progresses, the Ministry of Transport plans to expand similar initiatives to other counties, ensuring that road safety education and helmet distribution reach a wider audience, ultimately saving more lives.
