
Ministry of Transport Joins the World to Observe 8th UN Global Road Safety Week: "Streets for Life"
Monrovia, Liberia – May 12, 2025 – The Ministry of Transport is proud to join the global community in observing the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week, a critical international campaign aimed at spotlighting the importance of safer streets and transport systems for all.
In an official press statement, the Ministry extended heartfelt greetings to all vehicle owners and operators throughout Liberia, emphasizing the government’s unwavering dedication to protecting all road users.
“The Ministry of Transport extends warm greetings and best wishes to all vehicle owners and operators across the country as we join the global community in commemorating the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week,” the statement read.
This year’s theme, “Streets for Life: Making Walking Safe and Transportation Safe for All,” highlights the growing global call for inclusive and equitable transport systems. It also underscores the need to prioritize vulnerable road users—especially pedestrians, cyclists, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
“This year’s observance, held under the theme ‘Streets for Life: Making Walking Safe and Transportation Safe for All,’ underscores the critical need to ensure safer roads for everyone—particularly pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users,” the Ministry noted.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to implementing and promoting road safety initiatives that aim to reduce traffic accidents, enhance public awareness, and build a transport system that serves every Liberian with dignity and security.
“The Ministry of Transport remains committed to road safety measures, to ensure that every citizen benefits from fostering a safer transport system,” the statement continued.
As part of its ongoing efforts, the Ministry will engage with transport unions, law enforcement agencies, civil society groups, and development partners to intensify public education campaigns and enforcement of traffic regulations. Additionally, the Ministry encourages all road users to take personal responsibility for safety by adhering to road rules, avoiding excessive speed, and showing respect for fellow commuters.
The 8th UN Global Road Safety Week serves as a powerful reminder that road safety is not only a public health issue but also a shared responsibility.
