GOVERNMENT OF LIBERIA SIGNS URBAN MOBILITY PUBLIC TRANSPORT FEASIBILITY CONTRACT IN MONROVIA

MONROVIA: Tuesday, August 23, 2022: The Minister of Transport and Public Works Minister, Samuel A. Wlue and Ruth Coker Collins respectively on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia, an Urban Mobility Public Transport Feasibility Study Contract with the Maritime Transport Business Solutions (MTBS) based in the Netherlands to conduct study on the Du and Messurado Rivers  aimed at establishing Waterways transport service delivery as an alternative mode of transportation of people, goods and services as well as decongest traffic in and around Monrovia. The signing ceremony took place in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Public Works.

According to Minister Wlue, the idea to initiate this project by the Government comes in the wake of his visit with President George M. Weah to the Republic of Ivory Coast in 2018 which led him to engage the African Development Bank (AFDB) for support to partner with the Ministry of Public Works for technical planning.

During the signing ceremony, Minister Wlue expressed special thanks to the African Development Bank (AFDB), the Ministry of Public Works and Consultants for their unflinching support and the level of work done thus far. For her part, the Minister of Public Works, Ruth C. Collins also thanked Minister Wlue for the inception of the project and the joint efforts geared towards transforming the transport sector of Liberia.The feasibility study with support from the AFDB, is expected to begin in September 2022 by the Maritime Transport Business Solutions(MTBS) and is also expected to last for 6 (six) months.
