On March 4, 2025, the women of the Ministry gathered in the conference room for their first preparatory meeting. Leading in charged was Madam Marilyn Cummings Smith, the Chairperson of the planning committee for the International Women's Day celebrations at the Ministry of Transport and Director of Training at the Ministry. During the meeting, Madam Smaith outlined the event's plans and assigned specific tasks to her colleagues, ensuring that every detail would be executed seamlessly for the big day.
"We are here to make sure that everything goes smoothly," Madam Smaith told the group. "This is an opportunity for us to showcase the incredible contributions women make daily to the success of this Ministry. Our celebration on March 7th will be one to remember."
In addition to her organizational remarks, Madam Smith shared that key Ministers from the Ministry of Transport would be in attendance to grace the occasion, reinforcing the high level of commitment and respect for the women of the Ministry. The presence of such esteemed leaders will further highlight the importance of the celebration and its role in promoting gender equality.
Furthermore, Madam Smith took a moment to call on the male employees of the Ministry of Transport to play an active role in championing women's issues, not just on International Women's Day, but every day. "Men, I encourage you to serve as ambassadors for women’s rights and empowerment. It is not just about one day of celebration but a continual effort to uplift women in every facet of our professional and personal lives," she emphasized.
The meeting, which brought together women from all 26 divisions of the Ministry, was filled with excitement and camaraderie as the group worked together to ensure a successful event. The collaborative spirit among the women is a testament to their dedication and unity as they prepare to celebrate the achievements of women at the Ministry and in Liberia as a whole.
As March 7th approaches, the Ministry of Transport is poised to celebrate the remarkable women who contribute to the success of the organization, while also raising awareness about the ongoing need for equality and empowerment.
