Ministry of Transport to Launch Mobile Money Payment System for Vehicle Registration, Driver's Licenses, and Land Transport Business Registration

Monrovia, Liberia – May 7, 2025 – In a noteworthy move to modernize service delivery and ease payment processes, the Ministry of Transport is set to launch a new Mobile Money-based payment system for vehicle registration, driver’s license processing, and the registration of land transport-related businesses.
Transport Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler announced the initiative, stating that the mobile money payment system will soon be introduced to reduce the burden citizens face when paying for essential transport-related services. According to him, the system is designed to offer convenience and transparency for both Liberians and foreign residents, whether living in the country or abroad.
"This new system is part of our broader effort to improve service delivery and ensure easy access for all individuals who rely on the Ministry’s services," Minister Tyler said. "No longer will people have to stand in long queues or face payment difficulties. With Mobile Money, everything will be at their fingertips."
The initiative will allow payments for services such as vehicle registration, driver’s license applications and renewals, and transport business registration to be made directly through mobile phones using Mobile Money platforms.
Assistant Minister for Administration and Insurance, Honorable James K. Momo, added that the Ministry has concluded negotiations with Lonestar MTN Communications, one of Liberia’s leading mobile service providers. The partnership aims to ensure reliable and quality service delivery to the Liberian people.
“We have successfully ended discussions with Lonestar MTN, and we’re confident that this partnership will provide the kind of quality service our people deserve,” Hon. Momo stated. “Additionally, both parties have agreed to train our staff at the Ministry to handle customer interactions effectively and assist users in navigating the Mobile Money system.”
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that this digital transformation aligns with national goals for e-governance, transparency, and economic inclusion. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of the upcoming system once it is officially rolled out.
Further announcements are expected soon, including the official launch date and public awareness campaigns to educate users on how to access and use the Mobile Money payment platform.
