Tuesday, October 25, 2016: in an effort to clear the Somala Drive and Freeport-Duala Axis of illegally parked trucks and other heavy equipment which pose safety hazards and impede the free flow of traffic, Transport Minister, Angela Cassell Bush on Monday, October 24 2016, led a joint team comprising of the Liberia National Police headed by its Public Safety Chief, Col. Miekie S. Gray, Inspectors from the Ministry of Transport on a field inspection trip to these areas.


Commencing the exercise at Point Four Junction, Bushrod Island, Minister Cassell Bush told reporters that the exercise has become imperatively necessary to prevent the loss of precious lives and properties of Liberians. She stressed that the exercise will remain in force until there is full compliance with the Vehicle and Traffic Laws. She said this action is against public safety and that she will not rest until the roadways are cleared. Minister Cassell Bush said that in addition to the removal of these illegally parked trucks, her team is also out to ensure that vehicles without license plates are also made to ensure full registration compliance.


The Minister and team succeeded in removing over forty (40) trucks that were parked staring from the NPA Head Office towards the Freeport Bush Stop near the Port entrance. Speaking to over forty truck drivers in the truck parking lot behind the LPMC Warehouse, Minister Cassell Bush told them that parking their trucks on the main road is very unlawful and poses serious danger to lives and properties and that they must stop this act at once or face the full weight of the law.


The Minister was accompanied on the tour by the Deputy Ministers for Administrator & Insurance and Land and Rail respectively. Honorables Bushuben M. Keita and Juanita T. Bropleh, the Chief of Public Safety of the Liberia National Police, Col. Miekee S. Gray, Chief Superintendent Franklin D. Howard, Deputy Chief for Motor Vehicle/OPS, the Directors of Inspectorate, Land & Rail, Public Affairs and the Technical Focal Point to the Minister.


Meanwhile, the exercise continues on October 25, 2016 along the Freeport-Somalia Drive Axis.
