Thursday, February 5, 2015: The Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to Liberia, His Excellency Ralph Timmermann, accompanied by the Project Team of GIZ Liberia, on Wednesday February 4, 2015, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Liberia, Honorable Angela Cassell Bush, at her Broad Street Offices.
Receiving Ambassador Timmermann and Team in audience, Minister Bush expressed happiness and thanked the Ambassador for the brief visit. She spoke about the longstanding ties between Germany and Liberia.
Minister Bush told her guests that decentralization of the Ministry of Transport remains one of the major programs of her administration. She stressed that there is an urgent need to operationalize the three regional offices already established by the Ministry in Gbarnga, Ganta, and Zwedru respectively to bring the services of the Ministry to the door steps of the people for some relief. She informed the delegation about the submission in December 2014 of a draft AXLE LOAD LAW to the National Legislature. She said a massive public awareness about the axle load law is necessary to inform the populace. Minister Bush also spoke lengthily about other important programs of the Ministry of Transport and appealed to the German Government for technical assistance to actualize these reforms.
Responding, Ambassador Timmermann and the GIZ Project Manager for Liberia, Doris Popp, thanked Minister Bush for the warm reception accorded the team. They expressed the German Government’s support for the programs and pledged their continual collaboration with the Ministry of Transport for the overall development of the transport sector in Liberia.
